Global Consultation

Comprised of regional representatives from around the world, the Women’s Global Consultation is a space for experts, practitioners, and thought-leaders to explore opportunities and pave a path towards policy wins and advocacy highlights.

As a global network, we come together to share research and findings, support mutual goals and achieve collective wins. Facilitated spaces, webinars, virtual events, and periodic convenings bring us together for information exchange and cross-pollination. Our process includes:

  • Analyzing the underlying causes of xenophobia and anti-immigrant sentiment
  • Understanding and amplifying the legal mechanisms to protect migrants at the local, national, and global levels—including via UN Human rights protocols
  • Engaging a network of diverse organizations and actors implementing complementary activities in support of migrants and refugees
  • Engaging in public advocacy and awareness raising
  • Including affected communities and those with “lived experience” in the strategic approach

The Women’s Global Consultation will be composed of experts working to advance immigrant and refugee rights in the following regions: the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East & North Africa (MENA) and South Africa. It is a space for experts, practitioners, and thought-leaders to explore opportunities and pave a path towards policy wins and advocacy highlights.

The Women’s Global Consultation will conduct Quarterly Meetings to:

  • To facilitate collaborative and interdisciplinary discussion led by a unique consortium of advocates, policy experts, immigrants, and allies.
    • Participants will share lessons learned, best practices, and strategies to collaboratively address the needs of migrants and refugees
    • Network and share relevant resources on global migration
    • Plan/launch regional seminar series
  • To identify advocacy entry-points and issue recommendations consistent with ongoing migration debates at the global level
    • Identify gaps, opportunities, and challenges
    • Explore opportunities for multi-sectoral partnerships and sustained international dialogue
    • Reach consensus on a unified agenda across regions

    • Pave the way towards a possible roadmap of key policy wins on behalf of migrants and refugees

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I join the Women’s Global Consultation?
Typically, membership in the consultation is by invitation only. However, we welcome requests from organizations and individual practitioners with both global and regional expertise. If interested, please send inquiries to mirralliance [at] gmail.com

What are some of MIRR’s main achievements in the field of migrant, immigrant, and refugee rights?
MIRR Alliance’s portfolio of work is categorized in four areas: 1) network building, 2) learning and dialogue, 3) narrative change, and 4) anti-xenophobia initiatives.

  • Network Building: MIRR Alliance coordinates, provides services, and supports the mutual goals of its diverse membership of 500+ individuals and organizations. MIRR Alliance is also a key member of the newly formed Coalition Against Nativism (CAN)—a collaboration of leading advocates, from across the political spectrum, assembled to break the grip of nativist forces in the United States and globally.
  • Learning & Dialogue: MIRR’s achievements are documented through a growing library of Webinars as well as the organization’s research, and advocacy efforts. Furthermore, the multicultural and multidisciplinary team working and volunteering with MIRR helps the organization to stay connected to the grassroots level in the process of achieving the most progressive standards of human rights reform.
  • Narrative Change: Through social channels and its critical blog, Migrant Matters – Amplifying the stories of People on the Move, MIRR deploys stories, figures, stats, and policy pieces that portray realities about (im)migrants and refugees. MIRR’s migration mapping project (currently underway) is an interactive project that will track and report the contributions of migrants and refugees globally—the first of its kind.
  • Anti-xenophobia: We devise programs that build greater understanding and combat hate. These efforts intersect with each of the aforementioned work areas including our webinars, research, blogging, advocacy, and coalition work.
