Essential Yet Invisible: Protecting Women Migrant Workers
MIRR Alliance session at UN Women’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67)
777 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY

Women migrate for diverse reasons: violent conflict, access to livelihoods, or the pursuit of opportunity. Migrant women are change catalysts for their families and networks—but despite their value, they face intersecting forms of discrimination. This is especially true in the service sector where demand for migrant domestic workers is high, and labor protections are virtually nonexistent. Migrant women are more vulnerable to this systemic violation of labor and human rights. This session will explore efforts to bring their work out of the shadows and into the protection of domestic labor laws—highlighting the wins, losses, and ongoing challenges along the way.
