Zlatan is a former orthopaedic surgeon resident physician and currently serves as the medical director for a health and hormone optimization startup clinic, and as the international marketing director for an award-winning architecture and design company. He first moved to the United States as a refugee from a war-torn Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1995. While growing up in Detroit, he volunteered with numerous local, inner-city, and immigration organizations.
A life-long athlete, Zlatan was an Olympic athlete candidate for the Swimming Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina but turned down the offer to focus on his studies and on becoming a physician. During his studies at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, he continued his volunteering and founded the Immigrant Outreach Services Group (I.O.S.G.), focused on breaking down the cultural barriers that immigrants face. He also served as the director for the Diabetes Education Wellness and Super All Year clinics, editor for the Bone and Joint Journal, and Orthopaedic Ultrasound Expert. Upon finishing medical school, Zlatan completed a clinical research fellowship at NYU Langone Health, focused on orthopaedic surgery and value-based care. He then completed 3 years of orthopaedic surgery residency prior to transitioning into entrepreneurship and business. Zlatan has published over 20 peer-reviewed scholarly articles and participated in over 60 presentations at national and international conferences. He has also been featured as a guest speaker at the Penn State-Smeal College of Business and author for the Detroit Free Press opinion column on the contribution of immigrants in healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic.
